This week I am writing about the chilly topic of, an ice hotel! When most hotels are a warm heated place, this one is fully made of snow and ice! (Also known as snice) This hotel has been upgraded every year since 1989, when it first opened. The sesonal hotel's 9 suites were made by carefully selected artists from all around the world out of 200 aplicants. This years rooms feature fluffy cumulus clouds, a pair of astronaunts, and even kind kong all carved out of ice or 'snice'.
Each 290-square-foot (27-square-meter) suite sleeps 2-4 guests. Allowing couples or familys to share a room. To ensure visitors are comfortable, in the extremely cold -23 to -18 degree rooms, the beds are covered with reindeer heids. Guests are also advised to sleep in the hotels thermal sleeping bags. Creating such an icy place is no easy task. Preparation for each ice hotel begins in March when about 5,000 tons of ice are placed in cold storage. Soon, construction begins in late October by the many talented artists. The hotel will usually open in late November or early December, and then in April the following year, all the hardwork will melt. Would you stay in this freezing hotel? I sure wouldn't! But this is cool, and I would defintely want a tour of this place! Images would not load, so if you want to see these amazing scouptures go to this link below: https://www.dogonews.com/2017/12/21/swedens-stunning-icehotel-opens-for-the-28th-year Have you ever looked at a waterfall and wondered, how does that happen!? How does that water come and go forever it feels like and how does it even start happening? Mainly it is all about erosion. Rock gets blown, scraped, or bumped and it flies away. But as rock erodes away quickly, a river perhapes becomes steeper and soon is in a jagged steep hill. This is the magnificent loud sound you hear when your on a tropical vacation. But what about those waterfalls you can walk behind? Those I will say are pretty cool! The ending of a river there could be an edge. At the edge, when the rock eventually erodes away, the water spurts out almost like a faucet. It leaves room for you to walk behind. Scientists everywhere are studying more and more kinds of waterfalls because rivers go in many shapes and sizes. The amount of waterfalls someday could be never ending! Now you know! :D
Have you ever wondered why baby animals are so cute? First of all, it's their features. I mean look at them! They have big eyes, big heads compared to their bodies, and small bodies. This actually applies to babies that are humans too. They have big eyes, big heads compared to their bodies, and small bodies. Us humans have instincts to look at them and think, AWWW! Our minds go straight to that. But like I said earlier this goes with human babies too.
Have you ever wondered why snow is white? How come it isn't clear? In fact, it is made of water. Which is clear. So why isn't snow? Well scientifically snowflakes are clear. But piled up on each other so many times makes them the color white. But the color being reflected against the snow can also change the color. If the sun is setting, the snow might be pink from the pink sunset. But from a distance, (A very long distance sense we are on earth) the sun looks white. Which could also explain why the snow is white. Summary: snow is actually white which could be from the piles and piles of clear snowflakes or the fact that the sun reflecks on it, unless some other light is refleckted onto it.
Businesses that give back are on the rise. So are their earnings. When entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie went on a trip to Argentina, he saw that many kids had no shoes. So, he decided to do somehthing. In 2006, he founded a company that is now called Toms Shoes. The business was simple: With every pair of shoes he sold, the company gave a pair of shoes to a child in need. I personally think this business is awesome. But the companies that do give back benefit from it in many ways. For one, they attrack employees. Nearly two thirds of people ages from 18 to 34 say they would more likely work for a company that gave to charity, according to a 2016 Fortune magazine poll. Doing good to the world is good for company earnings too. Brands that helped out environment grew in sales more than four times from 2014 to 2015! The study shows people are most likely to pay for what they feel good doing, I can agree with that, and I'm only 11! I hope these companies grow more and more!
Have you ever wondered why Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday? Or why we always eat turkey? Or even if the pilgrims ate turkey in their meal? Well here is everything you need to know about thanksgiving! Let's start at the beginning. Why IS Thanksgiving on a Thrusday? Abraham Licoln himself chose for Thanksgiving to be on a Thursday. Meaning, there is no real significance to the matter. But this day is perfect because it calls for an extended weekend! Let's see, what's next on the list? Right! Turkey! It turns out, the Indians and Pilgrims didn't eat turkey in there Thanksgiving meal. They ate, goose, lobster, cod, and deer. Some say we eat turkey because it is much cheaper than goose for instance. Others say it is a tradition. I know my family has some traditions, but eating turkey is defintly one of them! Have you ever wondered what all the food the Pilgrims ate on that day tasted like? Imagine it. Sugar was very, VERY scarce. With none in your cranberry mix, or in something else that is very bland, would you be able to eat it? Would you be able to eat it with bugs crawling all over it? We are lucky to be living in a time with better conditions. Today we celebrate Thanksgiving in honor of the PIlgrims and their great journey. I hope I answered some of your questions! :)
