Businesses that give back are on the rise. So are their earnings. When entrepreneur Blake Mycoskie went on a trip to Argentina, he saw that many kids had no shoes. So, he decided to do somehthing. In 2006, he founded a company that is now called Toms Shoes. The business was simple: With every pair of shoes he sold, the company gave a pair of shoes to a child in need. I personally think this business is awesome. But the companies that do give back benefit from it in many ways. For one, they attrack employees. Nearly two thirds of people ages from 18 to 34 say they would more likely work for a company that gave to charity, according to a 2016 Fortune magazine poll. Doing good to the world is good for company earnings too. Brands that helped out environment grew in sales more than four times from 2014 to 2015! The study shows people are most likely to pay for what they feel good doing, I can agree with that, and I'm only 11! I hope these companies grow more and more!
Have you ever wondered why Thanksgiving is always on a Thursday? Or why we always eat turkey? Or even if the pilgrims ate turkey in their meal? Well here is everything you need to know about thanksgiving! Let's start at the beginning. Why IS Thanksgiving on a Thrusday? Abraham Licoln himself chose for Thanksgiving to be on a Thursday. Meaning, there is no real significance to the matter. But this day is perfect because it calls for an extended weekend! Let's see, what's next on the list? Right! Turkey! It turns out, the Indians and Pilgrims didn't eat turkey in there Thanksgiving meal. They ate, goose, lobster, cod, and deer. Some say we eat turkey because it is much cheaper than goose for instance. Others say it is a tradition. I know my family has some traditions, but eating turkey is defintly one of them! Have you ever wondered what all the food the Pilgrims ate on that day tasted like? Imagine it. Sugar was very, VERY scarce. With none in your cranberry mix, or in something else that is very bland, would you be able to eat it? Would you be able to eat it with bugs crawling all over it? We are lucky to be living in a time with better conditions. Today we celebrate Thanksgiving in honor of the PIlgrims and their great journey. I hope I answered some of your questions! :)
Know anyone one that loves minecraft? Ever thought you might be able to play it in school? Well now, maybe you can! So tell your teachers everyone! Because this educational game will be the best yet! If your like me, sometimes lesson after lesson can be kind of boring, so if my teacher said we were playing minecraft, I would definitly be giving my full attention. Today I am going to tell you guys about some of the coolest planets. And some awesome facts too!
JUPITER Jupiter is the biggest planet out of the nine of them. (Not counting pluto) Jupiter's average distance from the sun would be: 35,980,000 miles (57,900,000 km!) If you think of one mile being four full laps, thats a looooong way apart! But if you think about it, there are planets waaaay farther away. Jupiter's position in the sun orbit would be first. (Okay, that was just a random fact) And get this: one full day on Jupiter is 59 earth days! And Jupiter's year is veeeery loong. 11.9 earth YEARS! How long is that?! SATURN Saturn is the second biggest planet. But is pretty cool because of that huge ring it has. You know how we only have one moon? Saturn has sixty nine! SIXTY NINE PEOPLE, and if you thought Jupiters year was long Saturns has one year when here on earth we have 29.5 years! Crazy, am I right? We wonder if there is even days and nights on these crazy planets. Also, here is a fun fact: Saturn's outermost ring is roughly 7,000 times larger than the planet itself. NEPTUNE Now, our last planet, Neptune. Have you ever wondered what lies on this wonderful blue planet? Well lots of fun facts! Neptune is ninth in the orbit around the sun. Thats far away. FAR. The actual distance from the sun? 2,795,000,000 miles, and one day there is sixteen hours here on earth! Weird because their day is shorter than ours! A year you say? How long a year? 164.8 EARTH YEARS! Oh. my. GOODNESS! I hope you learned some about these three cool planets! I find them pretty interesting myself. -Anna |
